Helensburgh and District Natural History Society

The Society was founded in 1969 as the West Dunbartonshire Natural History Society. It brings together members who have interests in the flora, wildlife, birds, geology and archaeology of our local, national and world environment and also members who have more general environmental interests

The Society provides each year a series of six illustrated lectures on a wide variety of environmental subjects, usually on the first Monday of the month between October and March. In addition we have in recent years arranged a very popular series of geological lectures meeting weekly during the month of February.

We organise excursions each month (except for the midsummer months). These might be medium length walks in our local countryside led by one of our members or a more specialised excursion eg. fungal foray , led by an expert. Events further afield are also occasionally organised. For those who do not have their own transport lifts can usually be organised although this cannot be guaranteed.

Our events are publicised in the Down Your Way section of the local newspapers wherever possible and visitors are welcome (small charge)

Annual membership is £8 per person
