Helensburgh Area Christian Youth Project

Helensburgh and its wider area has seen inter church co-operation over a number of years, which has included that of youth work and mission. In June 1997 Scripture Union made contact with the ministers of the area. In Autumn of 1997, further meetings and discussions took place with representatives from the churches, who, in favour of a joint effort, agreed to support a youth project in principle. Meetings continued throughout the spring until a charitable trust was formed in May 1998.

"Helensburgh Area Christian Youth Project". Trustees and managers with an interest and Christian concern for young people have been drawn from the local churches in the area. The Trustees take overall responsibility for the project, the day to day management is the responsibility of the Management Group, which meets monthly.

With its first AGM held in June 1998, HACYP appointed Alan Wadsworth as the first Christian Youth Worker in early 1999, under a co-operative arrangement with Scripture Union, who also provide line management to Alan and back up to the project.

Funding for the project has come from a number of quarters: namely individual giving (including covenants and gift aid), fund raising, direct support of the churches and refunded tax from the inland revenue. In the year 2000, the project adopted the name "CONTRAFLOW".
